The Fall 2022 semester begins August 22, 2022. This is the day that classes begin. Students need to arrive the week before classes begin.
- If you cannot arrive the week before classes begin, please tell us ahead of time. You send an email to ali@umkc.edu to tell us when you will arrive.
The week before classes begin is Orientation Week for International Students. There will be lots of activities and information sessions for you to attend. Check your email for messages from UMKC ISAO about Orientation Week.
- All new students are required to attend the International Student Orientation session on Thursday, August 18th. We will take attendance. If you cannot attend, you need to tell us before Orientation Week so we can find other options for you.
All new students are required to attend an Immigration Check-in session. There are two sessions during Orientation Week. Check your email for messages from UMKC ISAO about signing up for an Immigration Check-in session. If you have trouble logging in to sign up, please email ali@umkc.edu, and I can help you.
- Tuesday, August 16th, 10am-11:30am
- Thursday, August 18th, 2pm-3:30pm
If you are interested in working on campus, there is a Career Services Event on Tuesday, August 16th at 3:30pm. If you want to get an on-campus job, it is important to start looking for one early in the semester. Later in the day, at 4:30pm, there is a session about getting your SSN (which you need to work) and a drivers’ license.
I encourage you to attend the Roo Fair on Wednesday, August 17th at 2pm. Many on- or off-campus resources will be at the fair. This is a great way to learn about UMKC offices, organizations, and clubs. Come to the fair, learn about UMKC and get some free frozen custard!
I also encourage you to attend the Health Insurance / Student Health Session on Friday, August 19th at 11am. This will be your opportunity to learn about your Health Insurance: how it works, what it covers, and how to get an insurance card. You will also learn about the UMKC Student Health Center and what it provides for students.
- Healthcare in the U.S. is very different from other countries. It’s very important to learn about it in case you get sick.
